2nd Annual Tejas Libre
Nearly 140 guests gathered on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at The Bayou Club for an evening of fine wines, superb spirits and hand-rolled cigars from the Briar Shoppe. The event, hosted by J.P. Bryan and The Bryan Museum’s Delegados Associate Board, raised $125,000 for the Bryan Museum’s children’s education outreach efforts.
Upon arrival, guests mixed, mingled and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and libations including fine wines from the Vines of Mendoza, renowned Garrison Brothers Texas small batch bourbon and various Karbach beers. Bites included bacon wrapped pheasant with queso fresco and jalapeno, venison canapes with Cumberland sauce, fried oysters, could boiled shrimp, smoked salmon canapes, vegetable spring rolls with ginger sauce and strawberries covered in dark chocolate. Attendees also enjoyed lively western music with a modern flair by Alligator Handshake while admiring Tenenbaum Jewelers stunning display of jewelry available for purchase.
Following remarks from J.P. Bryan and former Galveston Major Joe Jaworski, guests participated in a live auction of items with some from the museum’s world-class private collection. Sought-after items included an oil painting by Robert Wood; a cherry wood Texas rope bed dated circa 1840; a trip for four to pheasant hunt in west Texas with accommodations at the Historic Gage Hotel and the Chalk Draw Ranch; and a lifetime membership to Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The highlight of the evening was Delegado Chair Joe Jaworski sitting in with the band to perform a rendition of Dwight Yoakum’s “Fast as You.”
