A Message From the Museum Director

Dear Members and Friends,

Today is the Autumn Equinox, a day of equal light and dark, the first day of fall, and the promise of cool evenings to come.  Today also reminds us of the fall harvest — and fall migration, a time when millions of birds begin the journey south for the winter.

On October 9, we invite you to open your eyes to the hidden world of wild birds, whose beauty has inspired artists as diverse as John James Audubon and sculptor Todd McGrain whose Lost Bird Project is on view at The Bryan through February..

The film follows several New Yorkers whose lives are transformed by the discovery of wildlife in the middle of Manhattan. Karla Klay, founder of Artist Boat, an organization in Galveston dedicated to preserving critical habitat for birds and other wildlife, will introduce the film. It’s not just nature and art that transform our lives, but discoveries of all kinds that help us see the world around us differently. We hope the programs at The Bryan do just that.
