Staff Spotlight: Evelyn and Rocky Herrin

The Bryan Museum has the BEST staff if we do say so.  Outstanding examples of truly stellar service and generous hearts are the married couple, Rocky and Evelyn Herrin.  Rocky shines as our Director of Operations and Conservation, and Evelyn as Museum Associate. They are both passionate advocates for the importance of our shared history and definitely walk the talk when it comes to doing whatever it takes to advance our mission. In this time of fewer staff due to the pandemic, they cheerfully take on extra work, learning new skills and assisting their colleagues, always for the greater good of the Museum. Rocky takes Museum security very seriously and has also turned out to be a gifted conservationist who pays incredible attention to detail.  Evelyn has translated much of our collection information and website resources to Spanish. You can find her helping out in various departments as well, including the front desk where you will likely see her smiling face if you visit on a weekday.

Rocky Herrin was born in Houston and spent 8 years in the Air Force. Evelyn was born in Brownsville and attended Our Lady of the Lakes University in San Antonio.  Evelyn and Rocky met in San Antonio and have been married for 13 years.

Rocky states, “History should be used as a roadmap to guide us to a better future” and his favorite thing about working at the Bryan is “watching people’s eyes light up when they see the collection”.

Evelyn shares, “Texas is a state of mind, it’s an obsession. Texas history is in every word, magnificent.  It shows us that it’s truly crucial to know where we came from to know where we are headed.”

The Bryan Museum is very fortunate to have Rocky and Evelyn as part of our Museum family! Their loyalty and dedication to promoting and preserving our storied past are deeply appreciated by all of us and if you don’t already know them, please stop by and say hello!
