The Centerpiece of the Mardi Gras, a Retrospective Exhibit
The centerpiece of the Museum’s special Mardi Gras, a Retrospective Exhibit is a fabulous cape that was worn by the Queen of Momus, Galveston Mardi Gras, February 1992. This amazing cape was created by Bob Mackie, a clothing designer to Hollywood stars, and worn by the Queen in the Grand Parade. It was commissioned by Foley’s Department Store; the price tag was $20,000. Made of heavy lamé-threaded brocade, selected by Mackie in New York, it is lined with blistered gold lamé cloqué. (fabric with an embossed surface). The Knights of Momus crest on the back of the robe was hand-beaded. The exhibit will be open through April 3rd. Don’t miss it!
