[Gallery Presentation] The “Sweet Song” of a Dulcimer
Included in Museum Admission
February 22, 2020 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Take a break from the uncertain February weather and relax in the Bryan Museum and listen to the peaceful music performed by the North Harris County Dulcimer Association. The lilting tunes performed on this traditional musical instrument have their origins in Appalachia and even further back to the Celtic countries of Scotland and Wales. The origins of the mountain dulcimer itself remains shrouded in the smoky haze of the mountains of Virginia. Appalachian dulcimers were the first major instrument that was created in America, rather than copied from instruments known in Europe, and it became an important part of the society and traditions of the southern Appalachian region.
