Professional photographer and artist Russell Autrey will share the stories and explain the techniques, and equipment used by famed American West landscape photographer William Henry Jackson. In 1870, Jackson joined the Hayden Geological Survey for which he remained “Official Photographer” until 1878. Utilizing delicate wet glass plate photographic methods, Jackson documented such places as the Old Oregon Trail, Yellowstone, North Platte, Devil’s Gate, Great Gorge, Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Falls, the Teton Basin, the Fire-Hole Basin, the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and the pre-historic paintings at Mesa Verde. His large sweeping vistas and grandiose vistas are responsible for the creation of Yellowstone National Park.
