Cotton! The origins of this simple plant fiber grown worldwide remain hazy, but the earliest specimens are 7,000 years old and are remarkably similar to what is grown today. Historical program coordinator Katrina Yordy of Jesse Jones Park and Nature Center will demonstrate the process of changing raw cotton into the fabric that we love. Try your hand at ginning, carding, spinning, and weaving. Learn about Eli Whitney’s little machine that revolutionized an industry, boll worms, natural dyes, and why its illegal to grow cotton in your garden without a permit.
