History in Your Back Yard: Texian Navy Day 2026

Lots of people know that Texas was an independent Republic for ten years, and some folks know that Texas had its own Navy, too. Join us now for a quick look back at the Texian Navy’s deep roots in Galveston, and a preview of September’s celebration of the Texian Navy and all things maritime.

Tammy Lobaugh, a proven maritime executive, a waterman by nature, education, profession and passion. She is a 10th generation Texan and descendant of an ancestor who was one of the sixteen Canary Islands families who arrived Presidio de San Antonio de Bejar in the Province of Texas on March 9, 1731 who were sent voluntarily by royal decree of King Philipe V of Spain to found the Village San Fernando and to establish the first civil municipal government of Texas. (Now the City of San Antonio). Tammy is an Honorary Texas Navy Admiral and serves as the Texas Navy Association’s Special Events Committee Chair.
