Step back in time to the most significant historical event in Texas History – The Texas Revolution.
On March 2, 1836, fifty-nine delegates at Washington-on-the-Brazos declared independence, setting in motion events that would define Texas forever. From the fall of the Alamo to the decisive victory over Santa Anna at San Jacinto, the Texas Revolution shaped not only our state, but the values that continue to guide generations of Texans. Yet for many students today, these defining moments exist only as words in a textbook.
At The Bryan Museum, we believe these stories of courage, leadership, and determination are best understood through experience. Through immersive exhibits, educational programming, and hands-on learning, we bring Texas history to life for thousands of students each year, ensuring these defining moments are not forgotten but deeply felt and remembered.
As a history and education advocate yourself, no one better understands the importance of our collective work to ensure that a new generation of young Texans feels pride, connection and investment in the future of Texas. This year, as we celebrate Texas Independence Day and San Jacinto Day, we invite you to join us in our shared mission. A gift of $100 helps transform our most popular educational experience, the Battle of San Jacinto diorama, into an enhanced, interactive learning tool. With new audio and technology, this hand-painted, 1,000-piece diorama will immerse young Texans in the battle that secured our independence, making history vivid, meaningful, and lasting.
We also hope you will join us in March and April for special celebrations including historical reenactors in our galleries, engaging programs such as Tex Talks, and a San Jacinto Day commemoration with the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. You can even see the sword used to capture Santa Anna, one of the thousands of artifacts in our world-class collection. Visit thebryanmuseum.org to explore all the ways you can participate.
Thank you for believing in the importance of preserving and sharing the history of Texas. Together, we are shaping informed, inspired students who will have a renewed pride in where they came from and understand how they can shape the future of this place we all call home.
God Bless Texas,
Melissa Williams Murphy
Executive Director
Every day, we hear from Texas teachers eager to bring The Bryan Museum’s Traveling Exhibits to their students. These educators know what we know, that history isn’t just something to read about; it’s something to experience. Their students are hungry to learn about the stories, heroes, and heritage that shaped our state. Yet for many schools, field trips are simply out of reach.
At The Bryan Museum, we are committed to offering in-depth, hands-on learning experiences that merge Texas history with literacy. Our Traveling Exhibits spark curiosity and creativity by connecting the past to the present, helping young Texans see how history, reading, writing, and critical thinking come together to shape their future.
Your support makes experiences like this possible. With your help, we can bring Texas history to life for thousands of children who might never step inside a museum. Our Traveling Exhibits turn classrooms into living museums filled with artifacts, stories, and lessons that inspire a new generation of Texans to see themselves as part of the state’s ongoing story.
If we don’t tell these stories or engage the next generation in them, this vital history risks being lost. We owe it to our children, and to the future of our state, to ensure they know where they come from and how they can shape what comes next.
With a gift of just $100, you can sponsor a classroom and bring a museum-quality learning experience to low-income schools across the Gulf Coast. Together, we can keep Texas history alive, one classroom and one student at a time.
Please make your gift today and help us inspire the next generation of proud, engaged Texans.
As a public charity, your donation helps the Museum provide engaging information and first-rate experiences for our children and our community in the greater Galveston and Houston community. Your support ensures that the dynamic history of Texas and the West will not be forgotten and will continue to encourage and inspire future generations.
The Bryan Museum is a public 501(c)3 non-profit institution. Your donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Please select below your choice of donation.
