Newly Elected 2019 Board of Trustees

It is with great honor that we announce our newly elected 2019 Board of Trustees.  We are exceptionally fortunate to have such accomplished and dedicated museum advocates on our Board. The photograph above was from our January 19, 2019 stakeholders meeting including our Board of Trustees, Board of Advisors, local stakeholders, and museum leaders from throughout the country.

2019 Board of Trustees

J. P. Bryan, Jr.

J. P. Bryan, Jr. has been involved in the energy industry for more than four decades and is currently serving as Chairman of Torch Energy Advisors.

J. P. has devoted much of his life to historic preservation. In October 2013, the Bryan Family purchased the 1895 Galveston Orphans Home in Galveston, Texas. Today, the restored building houses The Bryan Museum and contains a nationally significant collection of 70,000 rare artifacts, documents, maps, and works of art relating to the history of Texas and the American West.

Alicia Bryan

Alicia Bryan is currently the President of the Board of Directors for Alpine Christian School in Alpine, Texas.  Ms. Bryan is also the Founder and Director of The Divine Health Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Fred C. Burns

Fred C. Burns is an active supporter of medical, educational, civic, and historical preservation organizations in Houston, Galveston, and throughout the nation.

Mr. Burns commitment to community includes his service as Chairman of the Wortham Foundation Inc., Advisor for the Gus Wortham, Chair of Insurance at the University of Texas, a member of the Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee at UT Austin, Director of the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, and Trustee of the Galveston Historical Foundation Endowment.

John W. Crain

John W. Crain of Dallas is Vice-Chair of the Texas Historical Commission.

Mr. Crain is past President of the Texas State Historical Association and is one of three life members of the executive committee. He is also a former chair of the Dallas County Historical Commission, an Advisory Director of the Texas State History Museum Foundation, and a Director of the Southern Methodist University Clements Center.

Joe Jaworski

Joe Jaworski, a third-generation Texas attorney, was sworn in as Galveston’s 55^th Mayor in 2010, after serving three terms on the Galveston City Council.

Mr. Jaworski owns The Jaworski Law Firm, headquartered in Galveston, Texas and specializes in mediating Jones Act, maritime and other serious personal injury disputes, Defense Base Act claims and property insurance-related and complex commercial matters in state, federal and administrative courts throughout the United States.

Ed McMahon

Ed McMahon is the owner of Ed McMahon Interests, which builds and develops residential and commercial properties, as well as equine centers.

Mr. McMahon served as a director of the Western Art Museum, co-founder of “Men of Distinction” benefitting Texas Children’s Hospital, an associate of both the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Baylor College of Medicine, and he is a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He is involved with several charitable organizations, including the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America and Citizens for Animal Protection.

Matthew H. Miller, Sr.

Matthew H. Miller, Sr., currently serves as investor and board member of Engy Southwest Container Corporation.

Mr. Miller has served on numerous boards including the Texas Historical Foundation, Arkansas/Louisiana Gas – Chemical Division, Engy Southwest Container Corporation, Cryogenics Technology, and the Memorial Drive Country Club.

Karl C. Rove

Karl Rove served as Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush from 2000–2007 and Deputy Chief of Staff from 2004–2007.

Mr. Rove now serves on the University of Texas Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee, the Board of Trustees for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, and the Texas State History Museum Foundation. He is a member of the McDonald Observatory Board of Visitors and the Texas Philosophical Society.

Roland Sledge

Roland Sledge has over 35 years practicing law in the oil and gas business with experience in acquisitions and divestitures of oil and gas assets, including producing properties, both onshore and offshore, pipelines, gathering systems, and processing plants.

Mr. Sledge also worked as an attorney at the Federal Power Commission, now known as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, before entering the private sector.
