Message from the Director | Lost Bird Project Film

Dear Members and Friends,

Tune in this Friday at 6 p.m. for a screening of the Lost Bird Project film, an ode to vanished times and vanished species.  Julie Ann Brown, Executive Director of Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council will be my guest to introduce the film and the history of the project.  The sixth bird commemorated in this ongoing series is the Eskimo Curlew.  Because the last North American sighting of this elegant shorebird occurred in west Galveston in 1962, a  memorial tribute to the Curlew was recently installed at Galveston Island State Park.

I’ll be mixing a craft cocktail live from La Sirena Bar inside the Museum just before the film and I invite you to follow along.  We will be making our own Curlew Spritz, a refreshingly light and bright summer drink with just the right amount of aperol, prosecco and a splash of topo chico over ice.  Invite the neighbors – you can’t go wrong – you might just take flight.

The Lost Bird Project sculpture exhibition is on view free on the grounds of The Bryan Museum and has been extended through March 2021.  The exhibition is made possible through a partnership with Houston Audubon, The Galveston Island Nature and Tourism Council and The Bryan Museum.
